Cruisers Got Game

We showed up for the cruisers daily volleyball game. I had this pictured as a few of us knocking the ball around with an occasional “not to bad maybe we should keep score” moment.

Score was kept.

I should have realized what was about to go down when one of the players said to Lily, “Now you don’t plan to play, do you? You might get hurt.”

“Hurt,” I said, looking around innocently.

“The guys,” she replied. “They will run right over her.” Her name is Susie and she has a deadly aim for the center of the opposing court. Renee was the tall one with a slamming return. Those were the girls. They didn’t run over anyone but, well, they might if circumstances dictate.

The guys had game, too. Our teams were slightly mismatched and I felt a little pressured to keep the ball in bounds once or twice. They were patient. They didn’t send me to the bench with Lily and Gidget the playful terrier. I was grateful. We played 4 or 5 games and the final couple of games were close ones. We finally abandoned the court with the threat of rain looming on the horizon. Randall and I both really enjoyed the exercise. Susie said to come back tomorrow. I suspect her of post-game politeness. We shall see about being regulars. Not sure if Lily will continue to find this interesting but she was a good sport today. Maybe we will let her take some action shots with the camera tomorrow.

Monkey making his get-away from Ulysses.

We are all set up to stay at Roatan for a month or two. We pulled into Fantasy Island Marina and ponied up enough Limperas for a month on their dock. Many sailors are hardcore marina abstainers. There is that “tie-up to a dock and you’ll go soft and never leave” mentality. Plus, staying in the anchorage usually means a better sea breeze and fewer bugs. However, being on the dock means Lily can hop off the boat and watch the monkeys steal coconuts from Ulysses, the boat docked in front of us. Plus, Fantasy Island has several beaches and lots of good snorkeling. It is a dive resort with hundreds of hotel rooms so there are daily activities going on that we hope to get in on. Last night was bingo night. We got all psyched up (well one of us did) and then could not find a game going on as posted on the events board. It is a little slow around here so I am not sure all the carefully planned activities are really going on. We will be investigating this more.
