Utila, Honduras

We left on Sunday for Roatan and just made it to Utila, a few miles short of our intended destination. We anchored the first night in Texan Bay and hit the prettiest part of the river the next morning with a beautiful sun breaking through the fog.

Lily likes to get on the bow of the boat and radio back on the walkie-talkie helpful comments such as “There is a log off your port bow” and “we need more anchor chain out” Or course, some times she slips in something non-boat related, such as “what are we having for lunch. Over.”

"Fog ahead. Exercise caution."

There were about seven or eight boats headed for Roatan together including us and Czech and Mate. Here is Czech making her way down river and a pic of some of the anchored boats in Livingston awaiting departure papers from Guatemala.

We were supposed to have five knots winds and flat seas for the passage. We had 15-20 knots winds in a heavy sea. Foxtrot just does not dance to that music. After a long day of trying to bash against the waves and watching all the other boats motor away, we decided to pull into Utila. The wind finally did drop in the night and we could have made Roatan today. However, there was a pretty steep increase in the wind if we did not make Roatan by noon. None of the boats we left with ended up in Utila so I am pretty sure we are the only ones that didn’t make it there.

We got checked in and paid for the cheapest entry fees in any country we have sailed to. We cleaned up a little and jumped in the gorgeous water. There are only about six or seven boats in this anchor so we are not at all crowded. We can’t wait to get some sleep after sailing all night. Hope to get some Utila pics up tomorrow.
