Passing the Peacocks on the Way to Cal’s

Fantasy Island has two security gates: one at the main road and one at the bridge. The bridge security post is always manned by a couple of employees who call up to the office if there is anyone wanting in which cannot be confirmed as a guest. The other security post is always empty but for this peacock. He is usually there with tail feathers fanned. With all the lush greenery around, it seems a strange place to hook up with a peahen but I guess he knows what he is doing.

We headed out this way last night on our way to Cal’s Temporary Cantina. Aussies Matt and Karen of Where II joined us for the trip. The view from Cal’s is spectacular and the food was great. We feel he should commit and make it a permanent cantina. As soon as we got seated, our waiter came over to get drink orders and find out how we were getting home. He had seen us get out of the cab and wanted to make sure we had arrangements since cabs are a little sparse on the east end. We assured him that Marquez was coming back for us later on but appreciated that he wanted to make sure we didn’t end up walking back to French Harbor. Our friends had recommended the pork chops but that was not on the hand written chalkboard menu which the waiter propped up beside our table. We all had seafood, watched the sun go down and laughed at each others’ boat stories. Matt’s mother came for a boat visit when she was 79. She flew 30+ hours to reach them in the Eastern Caribbean and got two black eyes after getting out of her wheelchair and falling while waiting for Matt to bring the dinghy for her first ride over to the boat. All within the first 15 minutes of arriving. It went fine from there. Thought you’d be interested, Mamaw.

Lily has been checking on the baby ducks daily. She gets a little mad at Momma Duck for stepping on her babies. She feels this is grounds for removal of the smallest, most stepped-on duck from the momma. She is willing to adopt. I said Foxtrot has a strict “no ducks aboard” policy.” She said she would keep it in her room and we would never know it was there. I think she doubted it even as she said it.

Jake!!! We miss you too. I actually had a little “I never get to talk to him” breakdown last time Dad called you and I didn’t get to talk. Anyway. I don’t have any news but just wanted to say miss you too. We would love to do the hike so maybe we can figure this out. Be careful. Keep in touch!!

Wait!! What??? Jake is going to North Carolina? Ah to be young and free like Jake, or I guess middle age and free like you guys. If jake reads this, email me and let me know what you are up to. Appalachian trail hike maybe? You guys keep having fun, and talk to you soon. Tell Lily I vote with her on the duckling. My mom stepped on me a lot when i was a baby, so living in Lily’s bedroom is not a bad idea. i am sure nothing could go wrong!!!

Lily is happy to have a duck vote in her favor, Danny. Hope you got in touch with the wanderer. I think you may get a visit as he passes through…
